Wellbeing through the seasons – The rising of spring with Anja Torikka
Saturday 11 April | 1:00-3:30pm | £35
‘The new season is here, the sap is rising with the greening of spring. Nature has woken up after the long winter and seeds are starting to sprout. It is time to begin again.’
I welcome you to my seasonal wellbeing workshop here at Jenna Blair Yoga where we embrace the cycles in nature. We will immerse ourselves in seasonal wellbeing through the lens of the 5 element theory based on Traditional Chinese Medicine.
During this workshop you will learn about the element of wood and liver energy which are linked to spring season. We will explore the energy of the season with gentle yoga, somatics, qigong and yin yoga practices.
Spring is all about rising, new energy - it’s the first yang season after the long, quieter yin seasons of autumn and winter. We are gently starting to tune into this new energy and focussing specifically on qigong practices in this session. You will learn more about the 5 element theory, how to look after your wellbeing in spring plus some really useful acupressure points for self-massage. We will do some journalling too which will help set gentle intentions for the season.
These seasonal workshops are soothing for the body and the mind. Everything during the workshops is gentle and invitational, there is no strong asana practice, just easing, slowing the body and mind and embracing the season we are in.
About Anja
Anja is a Senior Yoga Teacher with Yoga Pros (previously known as Yoga Alliance Professionals) specialising in seasonal living based on Traditional Chinese Medicine. She also specialises in somatics and trauma informed yoga and her sessions are nervous system friendly. She has practiced forms of yoga for over 30 years and taught for over a decade with a real passion for connectivity – to self, to nature and each other. Anja will guide you safely through seasonal practices which are complimentary for your health and wellbeing and plenty of options are always offered. ‘There is a magic in the space in between, between all the doing. This place of presence, pause and awareness in body and mind is where healing happens.’

- Tips for how to massage without straining your body
We’ll also cover how to work with common aches including back and shoulder pain and how to massage at home without a massage couch. It also includes a few self-care tips for you.
“The course went way beyond my expectations. One of the best weekends I’ve had in ages and came out feeling energised, enriched and with a deepened passion for all the benefits of massage.” — Kathryn A, Whitchurch, Shropshire
Underpinning it all is a holistic, intuitive approach to massage that includes the whole person and meets the other as they are on that day. It’s not about learning a routine, but about having tools in your kit that you can use to give an individual massage.
The course is highly practical and you’ll get plenty of chance to give and receive massage.
**If you book with a partner or friend you can work together. If you book alone be aware that you will need to practise with others in the group and you can work in whatever way whatever feels comfortable for you.**
Workshop Tutor - Jenny Hampton. Jenny has been a practising massage therapist for 13 years. She teaches a Level 4 Holistic Massage Diploma from her training school in Whitchurch. Jenny loves to see others discover their unique style in massage and find a passion for working with the body.
She says: "I love to share with others what I’ve learnt about how to help support people to let go of built up stress and tension, in a way that is kind on their body too. Finding ways to massage that can be sustained over a career is all important, so you can maintain that love and passion for what you do."
